Thyon is a spectacular mountain resort in the Lower Valais, being part of the “Four Valleys” skiing area. It has a breathtaking view of the Alps along with the 4000 m high peak of the majestic Matterhorn and Dent Blanche.

The Resort of Thyon streches from the altitude of 1500 m to 2100 m, with three different levels of accommodation places. The lowest level is at 1600 meters with charming traditional wooden houses, the second one is at 1800 meters with apartments and hotels and the top level is lying at 2000 meters, dominated by an autonomous hotel complex withouth any road traffic.

Thyon as winter and summer resort

The Resort of Thyon is the eastern end of the “Four Valleys”, which is an extended continuous skiing area including 5 other resorts with 90 lifts and 400 km of ski trucks. Thyon operates as a winter resort between December and April and it was developed in such way, that the slopes and the lifts are close to the accommodation places. Those who like to walk in the snow won’t be disappointed as the resort has cleared winter footpaths with a length of several kilometers. There is also an opportunity to ride dog-sleges.

Thyon is a family friendly resort as it is mostly free of traffic; it has ski school and has many accommodation options for any need and budget.

Because of the quality winter sport facilities you might think that Thyon is mainly a winter resort, but it is an exceptional holiday destination in summer as well. It is a quiet place, perfect for all those who want a relaxing vacation in a fresh atmophere with easy hiking or mountain biking possibilities. Of you like horse riding, paragliding and other sport activities, you will not be disappointed.

Tourist attractions of the region

The region of Thyon offers many tourist attractions, one more spectacular than the other. We want to mention first the pyramids of Euseigne, a chain of unbeliavable rock formations in triangular shape. They can be seen from a great distance and the road goes through them. The Grande Dixence dam is another attraction that can not miss from our tourist guide to the Resort of Thyon. The highest dam in the world will surely leave you breathless. The underground lake near Saint Leonard is a perfect romantic destination.

In the area of Thyon are built ancient irrigation canals, called Suonen. These lead tourists on their walks as they are not built with big diffreneces in altitude. The capital of the area, the city of Sion is a perfect place for those who want to spend several hours in a more cultual environment.

You might be interested to attend some local events as well; there are held cow prosessions and fights, the longest mountain bike race in the world, or the music festival at an altitude of 2100 meters. This is organized at the first Saturday in the month of September.
